    Biography

    Pedro Pablo Alonso / Biography

    Oviedo /Asturias/ Spain/ 1956

Lives and works in Mallorca and Asturias, Spain.

Painter and journalist. He began painting in 1972 and between 1974 and 1979 he studied Information Sciences in the universities of Navarra and Madrid. Pictorial and written language have been his means of expression ever since.

In front of “Submerged Light”, in the studio in Palma, Mallorca. November, 2022.

Javier Barón Thaidigsmann, doctor in Art History, critic, and Head of Collection of Nineteenth-Century Painting at the Museo Del Prado, has written about his painting: “Because of the playful sense of the brushstroke and the chromatic range that he uses, it can be considered the only representative in Asturias of colorful abstraction of Mediterranean origin”.

He exhibited his work for the first time at the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias in 1982, after being selected for the III National Biennial of Art City of Oviedo. That same year he was included in the XIII Luarca National Painting Contest, and exhibited with the ABRA plastic group at the Nicanor Piñole Gallery in Gijón. It will form part of ABRA until 1987, with more relevant exhibitions in New York (Westbroadway Gallery, 1984) and the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias (1987).

In 1983 he opened his first solo exhibition at the Nicanor Piñole Gallery in Gijón. He was selected for the IV National Biennial of Art City of Oviedo, at the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, in 1984. In 1987 he shows his work again in the five galleries of the Caja de Ahorros de Asturias.

He participated in the exhibition organized by the University of Oviedo in its historic building to commemorate the history of the ABRA Group, in 2013.

As a journalist, he has been editor of Diario de Mallorca (1992-2000 and 2009-2016), editor of Faro de Vigo (2000-2006), deputy editor of La Opinion A Coruña (06-09) and deputy editor of La Nueva España, of Asturias. During his time at the latter newspaper, he launched the Culture supplement, and directed it until his move to Mallorca, where he also created the “Bellver” cultural supplement.

His journalistic activity has always been combined with painting, but when he assumed directing positions in the press, he decided to stop exhibiting to avoid conflicts of professional ethics.

Since 2017 he has returned to publicly display his works.
