    Mountain range

    3.4.1985

The roots of the “Mountain range” series are in the Sierra del Aramo, which can be seen from the windows of the new studio. The strength of the Aramo is great despite its dimensions. They are powerful mountains and the setting sun gives them the appearance of a great black mass. I have never had the feeling that Oviedo is in a basin, in a kind of end of a glacier tongue. The first drawings are very gestural, playing with almost dominant black. What capacity of communication has the black. There are also different greys, orange and olive green. The watercolors with the ink give me the sensation of the fight of the wind on the peaks, of the force of nature that we hardly perceive. It’s like I’m catching a bit of that ever-changing energy.
